Commissioners Court Proclaims ‘Hunger Action Month’ in Hays County to Support Food Bank

Left to right, Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Jones, County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D., Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe, Food Bank Community Relations Coordinator Jane Moore, Captain Carrot (aka Social Media/Event Coordinator Mallory Raschke), Powerhouse Pea (aka intern Haley Porter), Fund Development Coordinator Carolyn Saenz, Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley and Precinct 4 Commissioner Ray Whisenant support the Hays County Food Bank by declaring September as Hunger Action Month in Hays County. The Court issued a proclamation calling attention to the plight of the hungry in Hays County and asking for community support of the Food Bank.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed September “Hunger Action Month” to help spread awareness that some of our neighbors are “food insecure” and rely on the Hays County Food Bank for nutrition.

The most recent Feeding America Hunger Network study indicates that 24,790 Hays County residents are food insecure and 8,230 of those people who do not always know when they will receive their next meal are Hays County children.

“The Food Bank is a wonderful, much-needed organization serving residents throughout our community, and we hope that those who can contribute do so,” Hays County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D., said. “You can volunteer at the food bank or at a public food distribution site or event, donate money or food or become a Turkeys Tackling Hunger corporate sponsor. Every action and every dollar helps – the Food Bank is not a handout, but a hand up.”

More information about how to support the Food Bank or to receive its services is at www.haysfoodbank.org or 512-392-8300.
