Commissioners Court Honors Parks Johnson by Proclaiming September 19 as ‘Mr. Radio – A Salute to Parks Johnson and Wimberley’

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed September 19 as “Mr. Radio – A Salute to Parks Johnson and Wimberley” Day to recognize the contribution of long-time Wimberley resident Parks Johnson. He is credited with popularizing the “man-on-the-street” interview, was a major media voice during the mobilization of WWII troops, and introduced the quiz show format during his long career in broadcast. Following his retirement to Wimberley, he became a well-known volunteer and community supporter.

Wimberley Valley Radio will hold an event in his honor from 4 to 6 p.m. September 19 at the Wimberley Community Center. The public is cordially invited.

The Court also thanked the Wimberley Valley Radio Station (FM 94.1) for its help in getting information out to the public following the Memorial Weekend flood and storms via an emergency broadcast license issued by the FCC.  Low power Wimberley Valley Radio KWVH can be heard on FM 94.1 in and around Wimberley.
