Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – On Monday, July 7, the Hays County Transportation Department will begin making extensive repairs to McCarty Lane from Hunter Road east to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Motorists will face one-lane traffic during the repairs, which could take as long as six weeks, depending on weather.
“Drivers undoubtedly have noticed the rough road and depressions that will ultimately turn into potholes if left unrepaired,” Hays County Transportation Department Director Jerry Borcherding, P.E., said. “We will be reconstructing the eastbound lane and repairing the westbound lane, which has less damage. While we don’t like to inconvenience motorists, these repairs are necessary and we’d like to tackle them before school starts.”
While traffic will be reduced to one lane during the day, both lanes are expected to be open overnight. Motorists are cautioned to watch for flaggers during the day and maintain a safe speed through the construction area at all times.
Motorists may also want to consider an alternate route. Traffic that typically uses McCarty Lane to go west toward Hunter Road or east to I-35 should use Centerpoint Road or Wonder World Drive.
