            Oversees:  Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Narcotics Division, Special Enforcement Division and Vehicle Fleet/Maintenance


Married in 2001.  They have two daughters.  Captain Cumberland grew up in Georgetown and currently lives in Dripping Springs.

1996 - Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (Sam Houston State University)

Positions held during his law enforcement career:

  • Captain Cumberland began his career in law enforcement with Hays County in 1996.
  • He has worked in the following positions while employed with our department:

Corrections Officer, Patrol Deputy, Detective (Narcotics), Sergeant (Patrol Division), Lieutenant (Patrol Division), Captain (Support Services Bureau).  He also served on the Hays County Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team as an operator and Commander.


Professional Certifications/Specialized Training:

  • He was commissioned as a Jailer and Peace Officer in 1996 with Hays County where he began his law enforcement career.
  • He obtained a Master Peace Officer certification in 2006, the highest-level certification afforded to a peace officer.
  • He is also a TCLEOSE Instructor and Firearms Instructor.
  • He is also a Master ALERRT (Advance Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) Instructor.
  • Over 5700 TCLEOSE training hours

2003 & 2004 - Supervisor of the Year, Hays County

2001 - Detective of the Year, Hays County



Captain Cumberland enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and children including camping and various outdoor sports.  He is an avid hunter and participates in competitive shooting.
