Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – March will come in like a lion with similar road construction projects planned to begin on Hunter Road and on Ranch Road 12 in Hays County.

Improvements to Hunter Road (FM 2439) will begin March 3 with the addition of a center turn lane and shoulders between Centerpoint and Posey roads. Motorists will experience occasional, brief delays, but the road will be open for traffic. The project, with an expected fall 2014 completion, is funded by Texas Department of Transportation Proposition 12 funds, which do not require a local match.

On March 10 surveying and initial construction activities will begin on Ranch Road 12 near Oakwood Loop at Summer Mountain Drive to near Rancho Encino Drive at Falconwood Drive. Motorists will experience some brief traffic delays, but the road will be open for traffic through its expected summer 2014 completion. The improvements, which include adding a center turn lane and shoulders, are being funded with federal, TxDOT and County dollars.

“These projects are a continuation of the partnership between TxDOT and Hays County that has led to historic state highway improvements in our county over the past few years,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley said.

Hays County Transportation Director Jerry Borcherding said that while both projects will involve removal of some trees that stand in the way of the improvements, “design professionals have identified those trees that must be removed and have tagged those that are to remain to ensure that the construction crews avoid those trees. Some trees will also have barriers placed in front of them to protect motorists as well as the trees.”
