Hays County Commissioners Court Proclaims October 6 as National Night Out 2015

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed October 6 as National Night Out 2015 in Hays County and encourages all residents to form or join a Night Out event in their neighborhood.

“Cooperative community crime prevention is one of the best ways to prevent criminal activity, and I urge our residents to get together, get to know one another and get to know your local law enforcement officials by participating in a National Night Out event,” County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D., said.

National Night Out is a cohesive effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie. It sends a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

While the National Night Out is observed in August in some parts of the country, in most of Texas the alternate “first Tuesday in October” is chosen because of the cooler weather.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office will be participating along with many other law enforcement agencies in Hays County by visiting registered neighborhoods to share crime prevention tips while residents take the opportunity to get to know their neighbors. Judge Cobb plans to attend a number of events across Hays County with Sheriff Gary Cutler. To register your community for an event, contact Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Ormsby at 512-393-7373 or tormsby@co.hays.tx.us. For more information about National Night Out visit www.natw.org.
