Hays County Sheriff’s Office currently operates under the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed October 2016.  This agreement is good for 4 years and covers all law enforcement and corrections officers employed by the Sheriff’s Office.  The Agreement states that the pay scale will be reviewed in 2 years (2018).  Specific information from the Agreement can be viewed by selecting each of the following:

  • The Pay Plan Summary provides the annual salary by rank.  The MBS equals your years of service.  Each year on your anniversary date, you are eligible for a salary increase provided you have a qualifying evaluation and meet the requirements for the increase.

  • Certification Pays (Intermediate, Advanced, and Master)
  • Intermediate Certification provides an additional $50 per month
  • Advanced Certification provides an additional $75 per month
  • Master Certification provides an additional $100 per month

  • Incentive/Additional Soft Pays including Field Training Officer (FTO), shift differential, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT)
  • Field Training Officers receive an additional $2.50 for every hour they are actively training someone.  This must be documented.
  • Shift Differential – Employees working the night shift (shifts starting at or after 6:00 p.m.) shall receive an additional $10 per night up to the maximum of $150 per month.
  • Special Assignments to either the SWAT or CNT team provides an additional $75 per month.

  • Lateral Entry Program – This program allows Hays County Sheriff’s Office to hire licensed peace officers or corrections officer with prior law enforcement experience in a law enforcement agency recognized by TCOLE and, upon employment, may place such officer at some step higher than MBS0 according to their career track.  The candidate must meet the following criteria:
    • Licensed by TCOLE
    • Minimum of 3 years of service as a TCOLE certified, full time, paid Officer as a Deputy Sheriff or Corrections Officer
    • Sheriff must approve any step increase upon hiring
    • Candidates who have more than 5 years of prior experience may start at MBS4 (not any higher)
    • Candidates who have less than 5 years of prior experience may start at MBS3 or MBS4, whichever applies to the years of experience.  Again, the candidate must have 3 years to be considered for this program.
