Hays County Now Under Burn Ban

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court today reinstated a burn ban for the unincorporated areas of the county.

Fire Marshal Mark Chambers told the Court that concerns were increasing about the danger of additional and more severe fires because of expected high winds and low humidity combined with the amount of dead grasses, which act as a fuel source.

Under a burn ban, all outdoor burning is banned in unincorporated areas, including the use of burn barrels with lids. Food grills can be used, but care should be taken to ensure that there is a water source nearby and that a fire is completely out before being unattended.
