Applications for positions on the Hays County Historical Commission are being accepted through Jan. 15 in the office of the Hays County Judge.

The purpose of the Hays County Historical Commission (HCHC) is to promote the preservation of our county’s historic resources, including archeological sites. Among the activities of the commission are the placement of official Texas Historical Markers; conducting research on the history of the county; maintenance and documentation of the county’s cemeteries; operation of the Hays County Museum (located in the county courthouse) and the Historic Kyle Railroad Depot Museum; and sharing that history through publications, educational programs, documentary and oral history presentations, and activities such as historical tours.

The Hays County Commissioners Court makes appointments to the commission, and the number of appointees may be limited.

Commission Members, who represent all the communities in Hays County, serve two-year terms and may serve for multiple terms. Members are expected to attend monthly meetings, usually scheduled on the fourth Thursday of the month.

Additional information about the HCHC is available on the commission website at The application for membership is posted on the “members” section of the website.
