Hays County Development Services Food Establishment Inspection Scores

The Hays County Development Services Department conducts the permitting and inspection of food establishments in unincorporated areas of Hays County and by agreement with the Cities of Buda, Kyle and Woodcreek. The Cities of San Marcos, Dripping Springs and Wimberley conduct their own inspections. The establishments inspected by Hays County include a wide variety of food industries such as restaurants, delicatessens, school cafeterias, grocery stores, retail meat markets, bakeries and bars.

Development Services does not score on a standard 0 to 100 scale but instead tabulates total demerits. If no violations are found, a score of 0 demerits is achieved. If an establishment receives more than 30 demerits, a re-inspection is required and corrections must be made to bring the total score below 30 in accordance with the Texas Food Establishment Rules (Chapter 229 of the Texas Administrative Code/Health Services). If subsequent inspections score above 30, compliance actions will be taken. Re-inspection scores are not posted here, but can be obtained by calling 512-393-2150.

Scoring Criteria:

0 Demerits – Exemplary

1-7 Demerits – Above Average

8-13 Demerits – Average

14-20 Demerits – Below Average

21+ Demerits – Far Below Average

30+ Demerits – Re-inspection Required

Important Notice: The information on this web site is designed to give consumers an indication of a food establishment’s sanitation level during an inspection performed by our food inspection staff. The inspection results give consumers a “snap shot in time” of an establishment’s sanitation and procedures. It should not be assumed that the inspection results reflect how an establishment always operates. Consumers may draw their own conclusions from the information on this site.

While every effort is made to keep the information on this web site accurate and up to date, Hays County is not responsible for discrepancies between information posted here and inspection reports posted on food establishment premises. The user must recognize that inspections are occurring continuously. As a result, scores provided on this site may occasionally differ from the most current inspections. Reviewing the entire inspection history of an establishment, rather than an individual inspection score, will provide a more accurate picture of an establishment’s commitment to food safety and sanitation. If you have questions regarding food establishment inspections, please contact Development Services Food Inspection staff at 512-393-2150.
