Open House Set to Garner Citizen Input on Right-of-Way Acquisition and Design for RM 12 Parkway Project
Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County and the Texas Department of Transportation will host an Open House on Thursday, December 5, to answer questions about upcoming right-of-way acquisition and present possible designs for the proposed RM 12 Parkway. Voters in 2008 approved the purchase of right-of-way for the project as well as interim safety and mobility upgrades on RM 12, already in progress, for the increasingly busy roadway.
In addition to learning about the right-of-way process and assistance to those affected by right-of-way acquisition, visitors to the Open House can review modifications to the original 2007 design and offer their own ideas.
“We’re going to be there to listen and answer questions, and we’re encouraging citizens to take the opportunity to find out more about this long-term project,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley said. “Acquiring the right-of-way will preserve the corridor for our future use; we envision a 4-lane parkway with a shared-use bike and pedestrian path alongside when the time is right.” The proposed parkway will replace RM 12 from SH 32 at the junction near Wimberley to SH 80 in San Marcos.
The open house will be from 5 to 8 p.m. December 5 at the Wimberley Community Center, 14068 Ranch Road 12. The meeting is come-and-go, with officials on hand to discuss the exhibits. Verbal and written comments will be accepted at the Open House, and a court reporter/transcriber will be available to accept verbal comments. Written comments not submitted at the Open House can be mailed to TxDOT Austin District Environmental Coordinator, Texas Department of Transportation, P.O. Drawer 15426, Austin, TX 78761-5426 or faxed to 512-832-7157. Mailed or faxed comments must be received by Dec.16, 2013, to be included in the official record of the Open House. Information about the project will be posted to www.RM12ParkwayProject.com as it becomes available.
