Court Proclaims July 1-8 as Wimberley VFW 4th of July Rodeo Glen “Corky” Gibbs Week

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court on Tuesday recognized the cultural and economic value that the Wimberley Rodeo brings to Hays County and also recognized a former commander of the VFW Post that has sponsored the rodeo for 69 years. The Court proclaimed July 1-8 as Wimberley VFW 4th of July Rodeo Glen “Corky” Gibbs Week.

The rodeo is hosted by the Wimberley Oldham-Cummings VFW Post 6441. Corky Gibbs served as post commander in 2012 and 2013, successfully leading the post to being named an All-State Post and All-American Post during that time. The post was again honored as an All-State Post for 2013-14. During Mr. Gibb’s command, the post was also recognized nationally as an “Outstanding Community Service” Post.

Mr. Gibbs served two tours of duty aboard a ship off of the South Vietnam coast during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from the Navy at the rank of E4.

“The entire community appreciates Mr. Gibb’s service to our country and to our community,” said Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley, who sponsored the proclamation. “Mr. Gibb’s continued dedication to our veterans is especially commendable.”

The proclamation calls upon citizens of Hays County to join in honoring Corky Gibbs as a community treasure who exemplifies all of the commendable attributes of a selfless and true patriot.
