Commissioners Court Proclaims September 17-23 as Constitution Week in Hays County

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – September 17, 2016, is the 229th Anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention, and the Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed the week of September 17-23 as Constitution Week.

“Everyone should read or re-read the Constitution thoroughly,” County Judge Bert Cobb, M.D., said. “I assure you there are things you’ve forgotten.”

The proclamation calls upon the people to take the time this week to educate themselves and conduct ceremonies and programs that recognize the strength of our Constitution, and also to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.

The Court was joined by members of the Jacob’s Well Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, who visit schools dressed in colonial costumes to explain to students the importance of the document. They also donate a book about the Constitution to the school library.

“The Constitution is the basis of our structure of government, our freedoms and our rights,” Hays County Precinct 3 Commissioner said. “It is one of the greatest documents written in human history.”

Copies of the Constitution in booklet form are available free at the County Commissioners Courtroom, 111 E. San Antonio St., San Marcos, third floor, during regular business hours and during Court sessions.
