Ballots by Mail Available for March 4 Primary Election

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Ballots by mail are now available and early voting locations have been set for Hays County – early voting for primary elections starts Tuesday, February 18 and ends Friday, February 28, for the March 4 primary election. Applications for mail-in ballots must be received by the Elections Office by February 21.

Hays County Elections Administrator Joyce Cowan said that anyone who wants to vote by mail and who meets the criteria should request a ballot from her office.

“If you meet any of the conditions that allow you to vote by mail, I encourage you to send your application in now while you are thinking about it,” Cowan said, noting that applications for ballot by mail are available online. To vote by mail, you must meet one of these conditions:

  • Expected absence from the county during both the early voting period and on Election Day. (The ballot must be mailed to an address outside the county)
  • Disability
  • Age 65 or older
  • Confined in jail and not have a final felony conviction

During early voting, registered voters can vote at the main early voting location – the Hays County Government Center at 712 S. Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos – or any of the other sites open between February 18 and 28.

“A Hays County registered voter can vote at any of the early voting locations, no matter where you live in Hays County,” Cowan said. “On March 4, voters must vote at their precinct polling location.”
