Avoid Collection Penalty: Pay 2013 Taxes by June 30
Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Property owners who have not paid their 2013 taxes have until June 30 to pay to avoid a 15 percent collection penalty. By state law the tax office must turn over all delinquent accounts to collection attorneys on July 1. Payments must be made on or before, or postmarked on or before June 30.
Luanne Caraway, Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector, noted that “if you are delinquent on July 1, your bill will go up by more than 15 percent that day. If you are delinquent and have not had a payment agreement in the past 24 months, you can contact the tax office to work out a payment agreement if you are unable to pay the full amount.”
Notices were mailed in May informing taxpayers that a 15 percent collection penalty would be added if the account is not paid in time. However, persons who are over 65, disabled, or on active military duty out of the area may qualify for a deferral of homestead property tax. Persons who think they are eligible for a deferral should contact the Hays Central Appraisal District, (not the tax office) at 21001 N. IH-35 in Kyle (eastside frontage road), 512-268-2522.
Taxes can be paid online at www.hayscountytax.com or at any one of the County’s three tax office locations. Offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except as noted. Payments can be made at or mailed to the San Marcos office at 712 South Stagecoach Trail (drive-through is available on the east side of the building). In-person payments can be made at the Precinct 2 office in Kyle, 5458 FM 2770 and in Dripping Springs at the Precinct 4 office at 195 Roger Hanks Parkway. The Dripping Springs office is closed Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
