Hays County Commissioners Court Calls Special Session for August 18 to Discuss Public Safety Infrastructure

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court will meet in a special called session Monday, August 18, at 6 p.m. at the Hays County Courthouse, 111 E. San Antonio Street, Suite 301, San Marcos, TX, to discuss and take possible action to order a bond election for the November ballot to fund law enforcement facilities.

Included in the facilities being considered for the bond proposition are a new jail, a co-located dispatch center for multiple jurisdictions and a law enforcement center.

The decision to meet Monday was made following discussion at the Court’s regular meeting on Tuesday, August 12, in which public safety and information technology officials expressed concerns again about the ability of the County’s 25-year-old jail to continue to meet state standards and the needs of a growing county population. A multi-jurisdictional committee has been working toward establishing a co-located, centralized public safety dispatch center to better serve emergency response for several years.
