Household Hazardous Waste Collection Print  

To help ensure that hazardous household waste is disposed of appropriately, Hays County has joined with the City of San Marcos and the City of Kyle to offer residents opportunities throughout the year to properly discard hazardous materials. Several collection dates are scheduled throughout the year and are posted below as soon as they are known.
This service is free to residents of Hays County.
Bring your drain cleaners, concentrates, degreasers, oven cleaners, solvents, polishers, pool chemicals, household batteries, latex- and oil-based paints, spray paints, thinners, strippers, preservatives, brush cleaners, pesticides (liquids, sprays, dusts), weed killers, rat poison, insecticides, anti-freeze, motor oil and oil filters and brake and transmission fluids to:

Saturday, January 23—Saturday, May 22—Saturday, September 18
8 a.m. – Noon
Rain or Shine

Drive on through, your items will be off-loaded for you and there is no need to get out of your car

Items not accepted include tires, containers larger than 5 gallons, medical waste, empty containers, compressed gas cylinders or waste generated by businesses.

Safety Tips

Do not combine chemicals
Keep chemicals in their original containers – if containers are broken or leaking, place waste in same-type containers
Transport chemicals in trunk (not in passenger compartment)
Hays County also operates regular recycling centers and solid waste disposal sites
